Message from the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the website of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI), a body of the Central Government whose fundamental mission is to contribute to supporting government decision-making, improving citizens’ security, protecting their human rights, and promoting civic participation.

The General Secretariat’s main responsibilities cover areas of key importance to the activities of the Ministry of Internal Administration, including budgetary and financial management; public procurement; asset management; the refurbishment and improvement of facilities and infrastructure; the acquisition and distribution of equipment and operational resources; the management of European funds relevant to internal administration; the coordination of international relations and the MAI’s cooperation policy; strategic planning and human resources management; legislative policy and litigation; the organisation and management of electoral registration; the preparation and conduct of electoral processes; and the management and provision of networks and information and communication technologies, among others.

The activities of the General Secretariat are carried out by a team of motivated professionals with expertise in the areas falling within the Ministry of Internal Administration’s remit. On a daily basis, the team works in coordination with all relevant authorities and entities at national, European and international levels, contributing to the implementation of the intended public policy outcomes in areas such as crime prevention and combating crime; border management and control; civil protection; road safety; the protection of human rights; and, more broadly, civic participation in electoral processes.

On this website, as well as through the SGMAI’s presence on social media, you will find regular information about the work carried out by our teams. Our contact details are also available should you require further information about any of these areas of activity.

Thank you for visiting!

The Secretary-General
