EU-US Justice and Home Affairs Senior Officials Meeting


 14 and 15 April 2021
In preparation for the EU-US Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial meeting to be held in Lisbon in June, EU-US senior officials will meet in video-conference format on 14 and 15 April.

The USA is a strategic partner, with which Europe shares a history, values and interests, for that reason the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union is dedicated to contribute to the renewal of political commitment towards strengthening transatlantic cooperation, focusing on the area of Justice and Home Affairs.

Programme

​The first day will be dedicated to Home Affairs, with a focus on fostering cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism and other security threats.

The Parties will also address the challenges and opportunities of migration, and continue consultations and exchange of information regarding restrictions to mobility caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The dialogue will also cover an update on the situation on visa policy.

Joining efforts to promote resilient democratic systems and processes, including countering disinformation and external interference, will also be on the agenda, in the context of strengthening the already good cooperation between the EU and the US on Home Affairs and Security.

On 15 April, the bilateral dialogue will be devoted to Justice issues.
