"Looking Ahead to 2030: A New Global Decade of Road Safety Action in Portugal, the EU and Africa"

The Portuguese Road Safety Authority (ANSR), in cooperation with the European Commission and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), are promoting this online event, which will seek to discuss and put into perspective the future of road safety and prevention for the coming years and the role of the European Union in this field, as well as in development aid in the context of road safety in Africa.

Promoted in the framework of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the initiative is part of the commemoration of the 6th United Nations Global Road Safety Week. It will involve African partners in the field of road safety and will seek to contribute towards raising awareness and taking concrete measures to prevent and combat road accidents.

Programme

The event will be held in two parts:

- the morning part will focus on "Road Safety in the EU - Looking ahead to 2030", with the participation of H.E. Eduardo Cabrita, Portugal's Minister for Home Affairs, and Ms. Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport. The new EU Road Safety Strategy and the Portuguese Road Safety Strategy will also be presented;

- The afternoon session will focus on "Road Safety in Africa: what role for EU development policy?", introduced by the UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, Mr. Jean Todt. The session will also feature presentations from the European Commission, the African Union Commission, a representative from Cape Verde, the Global Road Safety Partnership and the World Resources Institute.
