Portuguese Minister for Home Affairs and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security pledge to enhance cooperation
The Minister for Home Affairs, Eduardo Cabrita, and the Secretary for Homeland Security of the United States of America, Alejandro Mayorkas, met on 21 June on the margins of the EU-US Ministerial meeting on Home Affairs.

The meeting concluded with excellent cooperation ties and the importance of deepening the results that have been achieved in preventing and combating terrorism, hate speech and radicalisation, and the various forms of trafficking (human beings, weapons and drugs, among others). Portugal and the USA have made a commitment to increase efforts in areas such as training, capacity building, and the exchange of experiences in fields ranging from the management of major events, to the management of migratory flows, and the response to requests for international protection, an area which the Biden Administration has been defining as a clear priority.

The evolution of the pandemic situation associated with COVID 19, and its implications for international mobility, were also analysed, with both parties committing to continue to do everything possible to ensure a return to normality in international traffic, as soon as safety conditions are fully met, including health safety, so as to allow for an increase in flights and travel to and from the parties in question.
