​The fourth Portuguese Presidency comes at a time when the European Union is facing new challenges generated by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Actions to overcome this crisis, as well as to promote an innovative, forward-looking EU vision based on common values of solidarity, convergence and cohesion, will therefore be considered as priorities in the Council's work.

To realise these intentions, the Portuguese Presidency focuses on five areas that are in line with the objectives of the EU's strategic agenda.
