On 4 February, the Minister of Home Affairs presented
the priorities of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU to the
European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs
(LIBE).
With the affirmation of European values as a
transversal priority, Minister Cabrita stressed the importance of ensuring the
conditions for FRONTEX to fulfil its objectives, the search for a commitment by
Member States around the concept of "flexible compulsory solidarity",
the strengthening of the migration dialogue with third countries of origin and
transit, the coordinated action of the Schengen States in the implementation of
measures to combat the pandemic, and the relevance of the new mandate of
EUROPOL and of the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
