A way forward on Migration under the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union
On 5 February, Minister Eduardo Cabrita participated in the Webinar "A Way Forward on Migration under the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union?", promoted by the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. On this occasion the Minister for Home Affairs stressed the need for a "goodwill coalition between the countries committed to European values" in order to allow progress in the negotiation of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum. Eduardo Cabrita acknowledges that it presents itself as a quite difficult challenge, however, Portugal will commit itself to this toil, taking inspiration from the testimonies of the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, and the Director General of IOM, António Vitorino, both of Portuguese nationality.

Also taking part in the conference were Monique Pariat, European Commission Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Ulrich Weinbrenner, German General Director for Migration, Refugees and Return Policy, and Hanne Beirens, Director of MPI Europe.
