​Following a fruitful reciprocal collaboration between the two countries, the Portuguese Minister of Home Affaris and the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America held a meeting, by videoconference, on the 6th of April.

Eduardo Cabrita and Alejandro Mayorkas analysed the response of both countries to the pandemic and discussed areas of common interest, such as migrations, terrorism and visa exemption. Given their connection to the security dimension, they stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and the exchange of information between the security forces of both countries regarding migration flows and data on passengers travelling to and from the United States (Passenger Name Record-PNR).

The two leaders expressed their willingness to meet in person in Lisbon, in June, under the framework of the EU-US Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting.
