Human Rights

Law Enforcement Authorities play an important role in safeguarding and protecting Human Rights, namely:

·        By investing in initial and continuous training with the aim of ensuring awareness and preparedness of the staff with the necessary tools to protect citizens and safeguard of Human Rights;

·      By developing a set of instruments focused both on specific problems as well as on the groups most exposed to situations of vulnerability, through national awareness campaigns and Special Programs, which are carried out individually or in partnership, intended to deepen, qualify and improve the mechanisms of protection and safeguarding of groups in a situation of greater vulnerability, including children, migrants, women, the elderly, among others.

·     By actively participating in all the commitments of the Portuguese State, contributing to the fulfilment of the instruments ratified by Portugal within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and in the European Union's policies in the field of Fundamental Rights.
